Filth & Splendour vs Betoko – The Argument
Remixes: Vox, Jaymo, Lewis Ryder, Harry Brown & Nathan C
Out Now on Beatport –Beatport Link for The Argument
Itch Records is the new label from London DJ duo Filth & Splendour. The prolific pairing have been working away over the winter months to build a label that they’re immensely proud of. The policy is simple, to mix genre busting, unique and original sounding tracks, with solid workable remixes by fantastic producers from around the world. The line up so far looks great with signings and remixes by Jack Michaels & Yiannis Balkizas, James Harcourt, Jaymo, Harry Brown & Nathan C, Dave Cortex, Lewis Ryder, Montenegro, Ryan Murgatroyd & Surviv and many more to come.
The Argument see’s the first collaboration between the eclectic Filth & Splendour and techno man of the moment Betoko. Betoko’s first album Identity Crisis on Wow Records has been receiving praise from critics and DJs alike. It’s unique sound and energy is a refreshing bite at the techno genre. As he now begins to work closely with Amnesia in London and Ibiza he is quickly setting himself apart from the endless raft of young producers out there, making him clearly one to watch in 2009.
Filth & Splendour are two of London’s hardest working DJs. Having held a raft of residency’s at the much loved Cross and Key in 2007 with first class events such as Maximal and R U Dirty, they’ve since moved on to take hold of residencies with Rhythmatic, Evissa & Pure Pacha for 2009. Known for their eclectic style but consistent quality, they continue to smash sound systems all year round. Now with a string of hot releases on labels Mass Recordings, Audioholics Anonymous and Born Dirty they have decided that that it’s time to set up their own shop with Itch Records.
What better way to launch the label than with this genre defying release. The Argument is a track born of passion, a fusion of electro and techno it splices the two into a filthy hybrid of pounding bass, minimal percussion and euphoric stabs. The vox edit throws in cut up vocals to give it a more playful edge. Grinding along like a battle for supremacy, the track shouts and murmurs its way across the dance floor ready to destroy crowds on every occasion.
The accompanying remixes make this a heady package, Radio 1’s Jaymo first steps into the breach with his ‘Hard as Hell mix’ and he’s not kidding. With serious wide spread electro appeal, he brings his own vocal treatment and chainsaw bass to the party. Harry Brown & Nathan C take a tough progressive tip with a big rolling bass line and euphoric strings to lift the room before crashing it back down with its unrelenting rhythms. Lastly Lewis Ryder (Space Resident) strips the track back to its simplest state. The result is a tech house masterpiece that grooves along, cascading effortless class as it goes.
